Durable Medical Equipment Suppliers and Competitive Bidding (2)
Part 2 in the video series documenting the Congressional subcommittee hearing held on February 11, 2009, regarding the impact (positive and/or negative) of competitive bidding practices have on small businesses in the Durable Medical Equipment industry.
In this, the second in this video series, ranking minority subcommittee member Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO) delivers his opening statement in response to the one delivered by Congressman Heath Shuler in the previous video.
For the most part, Luetkemeyer agreed with Shuler's take on the subject, putting partisan differences aside for the good of the country and in particular, its health care system. "Small businesses play an almost irreplaceable role in providing healthcare services in rural areas", said GOP representative Luetkemeyer.
He added that he was interested in hearing from the suppliers present and learning what improvements they believe can be made to the competitive bidding process "to reduce any adverse consequences on small business".
Through the first two videos of this Congressional subcommittee hearing, I admit I've been pleasantly surprised by the lact of partisanship exhibited by the two speakers, and the apparent desire of each to do what is best for the country and for small Durable Medical Equipment businesses.
